Precision planting.
Lasting canopy.
Expert tree establishment and long-term aftercare maintenance for government, commercial and Tier 1 clients across Greater Sydney. Every tree selected, planted and maintained to endure.
Establishing trees that contribute for generations
The Tree Guardian delivers specialist tree planting programmes designed for long-term success. From species selection and soil preparation through to structured aftercare maintenance, our AQF Level 5 arborists oversee every stage of the establishment process.
We work alongside government agencies, councils, landscape architects and Tier 1 contractors to expand Sydney's urban canopy — delivering the right tree in the right place, with the right care to ensure it thrives.
Rigorous process. Proven results.
Every planting project follows a structured methodology developed to maximise establishment rates and long-term canopy contribution.
Every planting begins with rigorous species matching — we assess soil type, pH, microclimate, available root zone and overhead constraints to identify candidates with the highest chance of long-term success. Council approved species lists, DA conditions and local biodiversity strategies are reviewed as part of this process. Where appropriate, we prioritise locally endemic species that provide habitat value alongside canopy contribution. Our arborists produce a shortlist with documented justification for each recommendation.
- Site-specific species shortlist with rationale
- Soil, climate and root zone compatibility analysis
- Council and DA species requirement review
- Native and locally endemic species options
- Long-term canopy and habitat value assessment
Poor site preparation is the most common cause of establishment failure — and the easiest to prevent. We conduct detailed soil testing and physical assessment before any planting commences, identifying compaction layers, drainage problems, contamination and nutrient imbalances. Where required, we carry out subgrade amelioration, drainage rectification and root zone soil amendment to bring conditions up to standard. This preparatory work dramatically improves survival rates and reduces the likelihood of costly replacements.
- Soil pH, texture and nutrient profile testing
- Compaction assessment and remediation
- Subgrade drainage analysis and rectification
- Root zone soil amendment programme
- Pre-planting irrigation infrastructure setup
All tree planting is carried out to AS 4373 (Pruning of Amenity Trees) and relevant Australian Standards for urban tree establishment. Our AQF Level 5 arborists supervise installation to ensure correct pit sizing, backfill composition, staking methodology and mulch application — every time. Staking and guying systems are species and size appropriate, and are scheduled for removal before they cause long-term trunk damage. We work across all scales, from individual street trees to large revegetation corridors.
- AS 4373 compliant planting methodology
- Engineered backfill mix and soil amendments
- Species-appropriate staking and guying
- Mulch application and tree guard installation
- Post-installation quality check and sign-off
The establishment period — typically the first one to three years following planting — is when trees are most vulnerable. Our scheduled inspection programme visits each site at agreed intervals to assess foliage density, canopy development, structural form and any visible stress indicators including pest activity, disease, root heave or watering deficiency. Issues are identified and resolved before they become critical, protecting both the trees and the client's project deliverables. All monitoring outcomes are recorded and reported.
- Scheduled health and vitality inspections
- Canopy and foliage development assessment
- Pest, disease and stress factor identification
- Structural form and staking review
- Written inspection reports with photo records
Consistent, correctly timed watering is critical to root development in the weeks and months following planting. We design and manage structured irrigation programmes that account for species water requirements, soil drainage characteristics, seasonal temperatures and local weather patterns. Watering schedules are adjusted throughout the establishment period as root systems develop and trees build independence from supplemental water. Where drip or subsurface irrigation systems are in place, we manage and maintain these as part of the programme.
- Establishment period watering schedule
- Seasonal and weather-responsive adjustments
- Drip or subsurface system management
- Water usage monitoring and reporting
- Irrigation infrastructure maintenance
Government and council contracts require detailed, auditable records across the full planting and establishment lifecycle. We maintain comprehensive documentation from species selection through to end-of-programme canopy assessment — including pre and post-planting photography, tree registers, location mapping and condition notes at every inspection. Reports are produced in client-ready format, meeting the documentation requirements of NSW Government, Sydney councils and Tier 1 contractors. This record-keeping also underpins warranty claims and replacement assessments if trees fail to establish.
- Pre and post-planting photographic records
- Tree register with species, location and condition data
- Milestone establishment inspection reports
- Council and DA compliance documentation
- End-of-programme canopy assessment report
Long-term care for lasting results
Planting is only the beginning. The Tree Guardian provides structured aftercare maintenance programmes that protect the investment and ensure trees reach their full potential. Our programmes are tailored to the species, site and client's requirements.
Regular inspections during the establishment period to monitor health, growth and identify issues before they escalate.
Managed irrigation and fertilisation programmes calibrated to species requirements, seasonal conditions and site characteristics.
Early structural pruning to develop strong branch architecture, reduce future risk and enhance long-term form and canopy development.
Trees that fail to establish within the agreed programme period are assessed and replaced — protecting your canopy investment and contract deliverables.
Equipped for projects of any scale
From single-tree installations to large-scale urban greening programmes, The Tree Guardian has the fleet, equipment and qualified personnel to deliver on time and to specification.
We operate across the full Greater Sydney region and work under SafetyCulture iAuditor to ensure every worksite meets our strict safety and quality standards.
