Nothing removed. Everything returned.
Our on-site sawmill closes the loop on every tree we work with — transforming removed timber into usable hardwood products and keeping waste out of landfill.
Enquire About TimberOur Philosophy
A genuinely circular approach to urban trees
When a tree is removed — whether for development, safety or decline — the conventional approach is to chip it, haul it, and forget about it. The Tree Guardian does something different. Trees removed from Sydney's urban landscape are assessed for their timber value and, where suitable, processed through our portable sawmill into high-quality hardwood products.
What can't be milled becomes high-grade mulch, returned to projects as ground cover or soil conditioner. What can't be mulched is composted. The goal is simple: zero unnecessary waste from every job we do.
What We Do
From removal to resource
Every material stream from our work is managed with intention — minimising waste, maximising value and reducing environmental impact at every step.
Portable Sawmill
Our portable bandsaw mill can be brought directly to the removal site, allowing significant logs to be broken down on location rather than transported whole to a facility. This reduces truck movements, lowers project costs and preserves timber quality — freshly felled logs that are milled promptly produce better boards than those left to degrade in transport. Logs are assessed on arrival for structural quality, species value and suitable dimensions before milling commences. Workshop milling is also available for complex or larger-volume cuts.
- On-site log processing for significant removals
- Reduced transport costs and truck movements
- Slabs, boards and beams cut to specification
- Timber assessment and grading on arrival
- Workshop milling available for complex cuts
Custom Hardwood Slabs
Sydney's urban trees — mature eucalypts, camphor laurels, Moreton Bay figs, spotted gums and exotic hardwoods — carry decades of growth in their grain and produce timber that commercial plantations simply can't replicate. We mill live-edge slabs, structural boards and custom beams to order for furniture makers, joiners, architects, landscape designers and private buyers. Every piece comes with species identification and provenance — you know exactly which tree it came from and where it stood.
- Live-edge slabs for furniture and feature pieces
- Structural timber for joinery and building applications
- Custom dimensions cut to architect or builder spec
- Species identification and provenance documentation
- Air-dried and kiln-dried finishing options
Arborist-Grade Mulch
Timber that isn't suitable for milling doesn't go to waste — it's chipped on site into arborist-grade mulch, which is a fundamentally different product from the dyed commercial mulch you find at garden centres. Produced from whole tree material including bark, cambium and heartwood, it breaks down slowly, suppresses weeds effectively and feeds soil biology as it decomposes. It's the same mulch we use on our own planting programmes and is available in bulk for landscaping projects, revegetation works and council green spaces.
- Bulk supply for landscaping and revegetation projects
- Premium soil conditioner for tree establishment
- Weed suppression on commercial and council sites
- Available for delivery or collection from yard
- Suitable for BASIX and Green Star project applications
Landfill Diversion
Landfill diversion is increasingly a contractual and regulatory requirement on government and commercial development projects, not just a goodwill initiative. Because every material stream from our work is captured — timber milled, mulch produced, compost generated — we are able to accurately track and document the total volume of material diverted from landfill on any given project. This documentation directly supports GBCA Green Star submissions, NABERS waste reporting and developer sustainability disclosures.
- Landfill diversion volume tracking per project
- GBCA Green Star waste documentation support
- NABERS compliance evidence
- Developer and contractor sustainability reporting
- Waste management plan inputs for DAs
Tree Replacement Planning
Removal is rarely the end of the story — and for most council and government clients, it's a trigger for formal offset or replacement obligations. We integrate replacement planning into every removal scope where conditions allow, advising on species selection, planting density, root zone requirements and canopy continuity objectives. Our arborists understand both the ecological and regulatory dimensions of replacement planting, helping clients navigate council offset ratios, BASIX conditions and biodiversity credit obligations without the guesswork.
- Species recommendations matched to site and climate
- Council offset ratio and BASIX compliance advice
- Canopy cover continuity and gap analysis
- Biodiversity value and habitat assessment
- Integration with aftercare establishment programmes
Sustainability Documentation
Sustainability commitments need to be backed by verifiable data — not just intent. On request, we produce formal documentation of our sustainability practices for any project, covering the full material lifecycle from removal through to reuse. This includes material diversion volumes, mulch and timber production records, replacement planting schedules, and where calculable, estimates of carbon sequestration outcomes associated with retained and newly planted trees. These documents are structured to support DA applications, tender submissions, investor reporting and third-party green building assessments.
- Material diversion and waste avoidance records
- Timber and mulch production volume reports
- Replacement planting schedules and records
- Carbon sequestration and storage estimates
- DA, tender and green building assessment support
The Sawmill
Turning removed trees into lasting hardwood
Sydney's urban trees are often remarkable specimens — mature eucalypts, camphor laurels, Moreton Bay figs and exotic hardwoods that carry decades of growth in their grain. Rather than putting them through a chipper, we assess every significant removal for its potential as structural or feature timber.
Our portable bandsaw mill processes logs into slabs, boards and beams on or near site. The result is premium urban hardwood available to furniture makers, builders, landscape designers and private buyers who want timber with genuine provenance.
- On-site or workshop milling available
- Custom dimensions cut to specification
- Species identification and timber grading provided
- Air-dried or kiln-dried finishing options
Urban Forest Stewardship
Every removal is an opportunity to plant better
Removing a tree is sometimes unavoidable. Our responsibility doesn't end when the chainsaw stops — it extends to what comes next. The Tree Guardian integrates replacement planting, soil rehabilitation and canopy continuity into every removal scope where conditions and client objectives allow.
We advise on species selection for long-term canopy value, council offset requirements and site-specific conditions — ensuring the next generation of trees is given the best possible start through correct species choice, soil preparation and aftercare planning.
- Species recommendations matched to site and climate
- Council offset and BASIX compliance advice
- Soil rehabilitation and mulch preparation
- Establishment aftercare programmes available
